PROPLANET Deliverable D.6.5: End-of-Life strategies and activities for enhanced safe and sustainable coatings
The PROPLANET project supports the EU’s circular economy goals by developing safe and sustainable alternatives to harmful PFAS-based coatings used in textiles and food packaging. Focusing on Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), the project aims to reduce environmental and health risks linked to PFAS. This deliverable presents tailored End-of-Life (EoL) strategies for each innovative coating, ensuring their life cycles align with circular economy principles from production to disposal. It provides an overview of the coatings, PFAS risks, and circular economy concepts, while addressing practical challenges and introducing new, eco-friendly management approaches. The work advances sustainable industrial practices in line with EU environmental and economic objectives.
The focus of this deliverable is to apply the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) methodology, which integrates environmental (LCA), economic (LCC), and social (sLCA) assessments. This holistic approach evaluates the impacts of the coatings throughout their life cycles, supporting informed decision-making and aligning with EU policies and sustainability frameworks. The deliverable also outlines the development and application of consistent system boundaries and methodologies to effectively assess sustainability across all dimensions.
