CEMTex’s Impact of new EU waste framework directive on circular medical textiles Thematic Seminar

On 8 October 2026, a thematic online seminar on the impact of the new EU Waste Framework Directive on circular medical textiles brought together professionals and experts to explore how the revised EU waste rules are reshaping the way medical textiles are designed, used, recycled and managed. Organised within the InterregEurope CEMTex framework, the webinar combined regulatory insights with practical experience from producers, researchers and hospitals.

During the seminar, experts addressed the topic from three perspectives:

  • Producer perspective – circular opportunities for medical textiles, sustainability, laundering cycles and waste management

  • Eco-design, circularity and EU waste policy – what the directive changes, advances in recycling technologies and how to assess circularity

  • Hospital perspective – managing hospital waste, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles and links with other EU projects

The recordings of the seminar are now available, for those who wish to revisit the discussions or were unable to attend live. The webinar is intended for professionals working with circularity, circular textiles, and medical textiles, as well as others interested in innovations in this evolving field.
